The Saskatchewan Council of Archives and Archivists (SCAA) is
inviting nominations for its Board of Directors and welcoming volunteers
for SCAA committees ahead of the 2026 Annual General Meeting on June
23, 2026.
Committee involvement helps share the workload, reduce
individual time commitments, and bring wider member input into SCAA’s
work.
SCAA is committed to reducing barriers to participation and
building a Board that reflects the diversity of people, experiences, and
archival work across Saskatchewan. We encourage nominations from all
regions of the province and a wide range of backgrounds.
Board of Directors – Open Positions:
- President (2-year term)
- Three Members-at-Large (2-year terms)
Who Should Consider Serving?
- You do not need to be a professional archivist to contribute. We welcome experience in:
- Community or grassroots history projects
- Volunteer work in archives, museums, libraries, or heritage organizations
- Indigenous, local, or family history initiatives
- Records, heritage, memory-keeping, or cultural work in any setting
- Lived or place-based knowledge of Saskatchewan communities
A mix of professional, volunteer, and community experience helps SCAA better serve members across the province.
What to expect as a Board member:
- Board meetings are primarily virtual, supporting participation from anywhere in Saskatchewan
- Approximately 6 meetings per year
- Shared workload and reasonable time commitments (including smaller, task-based roles)
- Travel expenses for limited in-person meetings are eligible for reimbursement
What is to expect as a committee/working group volunteer:
- Generally lighter and more flexible time commitments than Board service, depending on the committee and current projects
- Work is typically done virtually through email and occasional meetings
- Opportunities to take on specific tasks (e.g., reviewing, drafting, outreach) based on interest and availability
- Support is available for new Board members, and no prior Board experience is required. We are also interested in mentoring and training individuals who want to build skills and grow into different roles in future terms.
Volunteer Opportunities – Committees and Working Groups:
Committees offer flexible ways to contribute without serving on the
Board and help ensure SCAA’s work reflects broader member input.
- Governance Committee – Bylaws, policies, and governance planning.
- Indigenous Working Group – Guidance on Indigenous ethics, relationships, and cultural safety.
- Grants Committee – Reviews and recommends Institutional Grants.
- Public Awareness Committee – Outreach, communications, and public-facing initiatives.
- Nominations Committee – Recruits candidates and supports the election process.
Send your nominations or questions to Erin Grant (SCAA Vice-President & Nominations Committee Chair) at scaa.nominations@gmail.com by May 22, 2026.
Include a brief note outlining your interest and relevant experience, whether formal or informal.
If you'd like to discuss the nomination process or have questions, Erin would be happy to set up a call or meeting to talk further.
In keeping with SCAA bylaws, nominations will also be welcomed from the floor at the AGM on June 23, 2026.
