Your 2018 SCAA Board of Directors |
Greetings Everyone,
One great suggestion from our outgoing board was that we
update you after some of our Board Meetings so that everyone is informed about
the activities of the board and SCAA as a whole. We just had our initial board
meeting this past Tuesday in Saskatoon so I thought I would kick things off by
creating a blog post.
This year we welcome two new members to our board, Ailsa
Hedley Leftwich from Saskatoon and William Shepherd from Swift Current.
Returning to the board are Bonnie Dahl, Stevie Horn, Tim Hutchinson, Tammy
Buziak, Leesha Cowan, and myself. It was great meeting some new faces and
catching up with everyone from last year. I would also like to thank two former
board members Joe LeClair and Crista Bradley for all their hard work over the
past couple of years.
We began the day with an orientation session in the morning.
This provided an overview of SCAA and all of our activities for our new members
prior to our official board meeting in the afternoon. We concluded the session by going over our
strategic plan. You can see an update on the progress of our strategic goals here. Our plan
was originally set to end this year, but we will be rolling it into 2019/20
because of a change in our funding cycle at SaskCulture. We will update you on
our plans for next year in the blog, website, and email updates.
At the meeting we established our committees and chairs for
the year. The Governance Committee will be chaired by Tim; the Education
Committee by Ailsa; the Grants Committee by Bonnie; the Public Awareness
Committee by Stevie; and the Diversity Working Group by Leesha. Look for some
invitations to get involved in the committees and other SCAA activities later
this fall!
At the meeting we also discussed the changes to the timing
of the institutional grants, and the great new grant writing workshop offered
this year. If you haven’t attended the grant workshop, don’t worry the session
has been recorded and is available on our website.
The software to run this online training was offered to us from the Ministry of
Education, and we are already thinking of future short webinar programs we
might be able to offer online. We concluded the meeting by planning some topics
to discuss at our future board meetings.
I’ll conclude by inviting all of you to please make use of
this blog. The intention is that it isn’t just a place to discuss SCAA
activities but for everyone in the Saskatchewan archival community to make use
of. It was great to see the City of North Battleford Historic Archives and City
of Regina Archives promoting some of their activities this summer. If you would
like to post something please contact Stevie Horn (stevie.horn@usask.ca) or Cameron Hart (scaa.advisor@sasktel.net).
Thank you
Jeremy Mohr
SCAA
President
